The Abbotsford Youth Commission (AYC) held an anti-bullying rally on Wednesday afternoon in recognition of the national Pink Shirt Day.
The gathering was held at the AYC's drop-in centre at Abbotsford Recreation Centre (ARC), where posters with anti-bullying messages lined the walls.
Members of the Abbotsford Police Department's youth squad were on hand, and Abbotsford Heat hockey players Brady Lamb and Corban Knight also came out to support the event.
A few speeches followed, including the experiences of two teens who had been bullied.
Participants then held signs with anti-bullying messages and paraded around the ARC area. When they returned, they signed a pledge on the chalkboard that read "I pledge to be respectful to other and stand up against bullying whenever and wherever I see it."
AYC executive director Bev Olfert said the event was held to help keep the Pink Shirt Day initiative alive and to recognize the seriousness of the issue in the community.
