The Abbotsford Traditional Secondary School Key Club made Christmas morning memorable for a number of people during the recent cold weather snap that has rolled into the Fraser Valley.
The group created more than 70 ready-to-eat meal packages containing warm food and drinks and then handed them out to local homeless on Dec. 25.
“We managed to hand out all these packages to the homeless in the community that were hungry this holiday season by setting up a booth in the city,” stated ATSS Key Club executive member Sukhman Gill. “By creating a safe environment people felt comfortable in, we could deliver the food while also listening to people’s stories, spreading holiday cheer in the process.”
Gill said the one-two punch of the flood and now this extreme weather has been difficult for those living on the streets.
“This has been a particularly difficult time for our community as we have had to deal with unprecedented weather conditions and worsening COVID restrictions,” he said. “Despite this, we have not slowed down in our mission to serve our community, taking it upon ourselves to set up a tent where people were able to come by and grab whatever they need.”
