Abbotsford students earn 19 medals at skills contest

The gold medalists from the regional competition now advance to the provincial level on April 17 at Tradex.

Abbotsford students won 19 of the 29 medals awarded Thursday during the Upper Fraser Valley Regional Skills Canada competition held at the UFV Trades and Technology Centre.

The students, from six Abbotsford schools, collected eight gold, seven silver and four bronze medals.

All gold medalists are now eligible to participate in the provincial skills competition to be held April 17 at Tradex in Abbotsford. Gold medal winners from that level advance to the national competition.

The Abbotsford medal winners at the regional competition were:

2D Animation

Gold: Elijah Baluyan, Karmyn Chretien – Robert Bateman Secondary

3D Animation

Gold: Patty Chomseng, Conor Nolan – Abbotsford Virtual School

Silver: Ben Winthrop – Robert Bateman Secondary

Architectural CAD

Gold: Davejot Sidhu – Robert Bateman Secondary

Silver: Austin Bilodeau – Abbotsford Senior Secondary

Automotive Service Technician

Gold: David Lawton – Yale Secondary

Silver: Andrew Carson – Robert Bateman Secondary

Bronze: Paul Reyes – Abbotsford Senior Secondary

Carpentry

Silver: Cameron Ast – Abbotsford Senior Secondary

Bronze: Caleb Moorhouse – WJ Mouat Secondary

Culinary

Gold: Amie Peters – Abbotsford Senior Secondary
