Abbotsford School of Integrated Arts under review

The board of education is holding two public meetings to discuss the program's future needs.

The Abbotsford board of education is undertaking a review of Abbotsford School of Integrated Arts (ASIA).

The program is currently available at North Poplar Elementary for kindergarten to Grade 5 and Sumas Mountain Middle/Secondary for Grades 6 to 12.

Board chairman John Sutherland said the review will give consideration to the future needs and sustainability of the integrated arts program in the district.

“This is a follow-up to a previous assessment of ASIA along with continuation of the long term facilities plan, which specifically addresses facility issues in the district,” he said.

“It is also a key part of the board’s strategic plan, as we review student access to programs and services and flexibility in those programs and services."

Two public information meetings have been scheduled to discuss the matter with interested students, parents and community members. They take place:

– Wednesday, Oct. 24, at 7 p.m. at  ASIA Sumas Mountain, 36232 Lower Sumas Mountain Rd.; and

– Tuesday, Nov. 6 at  7 p.m. at ASIA North Poplar school, 32041 Marshall Rd.

Interested people are also invited to participate in an online survey from Nov. 7 to 23 on the school district website (sd34.bc.ca).
