Policing the Stanley Cup playoff crowds in Abbotsford this year amounted to $131,000 in overtime costs for the local police department.

Police Chief Bob Rich, speaking at Tuesday's police board meeting, said the Abbotsford Police Department had budgeted $40,000 to monitor the crowds and traffic that gathered along South Fraser Way following Vancouver Canuck wins.

"(The budget) is done well in advance of knowing whether the Canucks will be in the playoffs," Rich said.

He said the additional $91,000 in costs will likely be taken out of the contingency fund.
