Abbotsford Police are asking for witnesses to a violent assault outside of a local pub to come forward.
Const. Ian MacDonald said although many people were in the area of the assault in the early morning of Sunday, Feb. 26, no one has provided useful information to police, such as the identities of the suspects.
"We end up with dozens of people ... and yet none of those people step up and do the right thing," he said.
The incident took place at about 1:30 a.m. outside of the Duke of Dublin Olde Irish Pub in the 33700 block of South Fraser Way.
MacDonald said a 31-year-old man who was leaving with friends stopped to talk to an acquaintance.
The nature of the discussion is not known, but a second man elbowed the victim in the face, strongly enough to break his jaw. That man, or a second individual, then hit the victim over the head with a glass bottle.
The victim, who was bleeding profusely from his face and head, was transported to hospital. He received staples to close the lacerations in his head and surgery to repair his jaw.
MacDonald said police interviewed pub staff and a few people who remained on scene after the assault, but many people had fled the scene when police arrived.
He said forensic identification officers are now reviewing security video and will enhance the images in an attempt to identify the person or people who committed the assault.
