The Abbotsford Police Department had a budget surplus of $250,000 for the 2011 budget year, which it will return to the city.
Police board members credited police Chief Bob Rich and his staff with not “spending to the budget,” as some branches of government might.
Police spokesman Ian MacDonald said the APD didn’t discontinue any of its planned programs or expenditures, but simply “found efficiencies in the system.”
