Abbotsford Police respond to reports of camo-wearing men with guns

Teen boys with airsoft guns alarm residents in Abbotford neighbourhood.

Police received calls on Sunday night that two men in camouflage clothing were running around an Abbotsford neighbourhood with guns.

But when police arrived at the scene – in the area of Clearbrook Road and Balfour Drive – they discovered the culprits were actually two 14-year-old boys with airsoft guns (replica firearms that fire plastic pellets).

Const. Ian MacDonald said the two didn't realize they were creating such a fuss.

"They were thinking they were just having a good time," he said.

MacDonald said the boys started out in one of their backyards, but their adventure game brought them out in the open, alarming nearby residents.

He said police spoke to the boys and their parents to let them know it "maybe was not the best idea"  to be wielding fake guns in a public area.

The incident took place just after 5 p.m. on Sunday.
