Abbotsford Police Chief Bob Rich was honoured with an award in Quebec last week.

Abbotsford Police Chief Bob Rich was honoured as an Officer of the Order of Merit of the Police Forces last Friday in Quebec.

The honour was presented in a ceremony at the residence of Gov. Gen. David Johnston at the Citadelle of Quebec.

It is given at three levels – member, officer and commander – and each level must be awarded before the next one can be bestowed.

Rich was invested as a Member of the Order of Merit in 2008.

The Order of Merit honours a career of exceptional service by members and employees of Canadian police forces.

Rich was among 23 recipients from across Canada honoured at Friday's ceremony, where each received the badge of the order.

Rich has been with the Abbotsford Police Department since July 2008, following almost 30 years with the Vancouver Police Department.

Prior to starting his policing career in 1980, Rich obtained a law degree.

In 2012, Rich was presented with the governor general's Police Exemplary Service Medal, recognizing officers who have served in an exemplary manner and have completed 20 years of full-time policing.
