Abbotsford Police assist in arrest of murder suspect

A 24-year-old man was taken into custody along 264 Street in Aldergrove, following the discovery of a body in Langley.

Abbotsford Police officers were involved in the arrest of a murder suspect this morning in Aldergrove.

Langley RCMP received information just after 7:30 a.m. today (Monday) about a possible body in a residence in the 19800 block of 69 Avenue.

A man was found dead on the scene.

Langley RCMP quickly identified a possible suspect and vehicle that he was travelling in. The Abbotsford Police Department was notified, and officers from Langley and Abbotsford tracked down the car.

A brief pursuit ensued, resulting in police vehicles forcing the suspect’s car off the road on 264 Street near 48 Avenue in Aldergrove, near the Greater Vancouver Zoo.

At least one cruiser was damaged.

The 24-year-old suspect from Langley, who is known to police, was arrested on the scene at about 9:30 a.m.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has taken over the investigation. IHIT spokesperson Sgt. Jennifer Pound said the suspect now faces homicide-related charges, which could range from murder to manslaughter.

Pound said police would like to thank members of the general public who offered to use their personal airplanes to assist with locating the suspect.

It is not known at this point what the relationship is between the suspect and the victim as the victim has yet to be identified, she said.

The house where the body was discovered is located in a neighbourhood of recently built homes in the Willoughby area of Langley.

At least one neighbour said it was a shared house, with some of the occupants recent arrivals from Alberta.
