Abbotsford Police have arrested a man suspected of robbing three Abbotsford businesses and one in Chilliwack over a 10-day period.

Earlier Wednesday, major crime investigators, with the assistance of the RCMP emergency response team (ERT), arrested a man in the 30800 block of Peardonville Road.

The 38-year-old Chilliwack resident, who is known to police, is expected to appear in Abbotsford provincial court or before a justice of the peace later Wednesday or on Thursday morning. He cannot be named until charges are formally laid.

“This investigation was a priority for us and the arrest is a result of a collaborative effort between our office and the Chilliwack RCMP,” said Abbotsford Police Sgt. Casey Vinet. “Robberies such as these tend to occur in sprees so we are very happy that we were able to identify and get this guy into custody before any more businesses could be impacted.”

The arrest follows an investigation into three separate robberies in Abbotsford and an additional one that occurred in Chilliwack last month. All four involved the use of a handgun. No one was injured.

The Abbotsford incidents were at two liquor stores and a bank, on May 26, June 1 and June 3. In all three cases, the suspect was described as a stocky man in his 30s or 40s wearing glasses and a baseball cap.

Police released photos of the suspect from video surveillance captured at the scene in the incidents on May 26 and June 1.

The Chilliwack robbery was at a gas station on May 24.
