Abbotsford Police announce death of officer with two years’ service

Cause of death not considered suspicious, says Chief Mike Serr

The Abbotsford Police Department has its flags lowered to half-mast to honour a member who died Monday morning.

A message posted Tuesday afternoon (Oct. 13) on the APD’s social media platforms from Chief Mike Serr did not indicate the cause of death, but said it was “not suspicious.”

The post urges the public and police members to reach out for support and lists the number (310-6789) to speak to a crisis line worker.

The name of the officer, who had two years’ service, was not provided.

“It is with a heavy heart that I inform you that on Monday morning our AbbyPD family lost a brother officer … Our lost brother was proud to wear the AbbyPD uniform and was always known for his positive energy and constant smile,” Serr’s message states.

Serr said the department is supporting the officer’s family and APD staff as they “wait for more answers regarding the cause.”

“This tragic loss of our colleague and friend is being felt throughout our close-knit community and will inevitably continue to be felt for a long time to come,” the post states.
