Two Abbotsford candidates in the 2022 general local elections will not be allowed to run in the next election.
Manjit Sohi ran for mayor, and Tim Felger was one of the many council candidates. Both were among a list of 50 candidates across the province who missed the deadline to file their financial paperwork with Elections BC. The information was released this week from the organization.
They will not be allowed to seek any office until after 2026 general local elections.
Sohi is currently the treasurer for Sport Abbotsford, and ran previously for Abbotsford council in the 2021 byelection.
In the mayoral all-candidates meeting, Sohi promised to “remove red tape” for developers and businesses, and complained of a log jam at city hall to get things approved.
He earned 7,705 votes, which is equal to about 31 per cent of the vote. Ross Siemens was voted in as mayor with 16,037 votes (64.41 per cent).
There were 21 council candidates for the eight seats available. Felger earned 1,844 votes, the second least on the ballot. He ran as an independent in this last election, but has been a candidate in the with the Abbotsford Marijuana Party.
All of the candidates for the Abbotsford board of education filed their paperwork by deadline.
