An Abbotsford man has been accused of hacking pop star Carly Rae Jepsen's computer and phone, and stealing photos of her.
Christopher David Long, 25, has been charged with fraudulently obtaining telecommunication services, unauthorized use of a computer, mischief to data, identity fraud and possession of stolen property.
Long surrendered to police last Friday at the Abbotsford Courthouse. He has been released pending his next court appearance on Jan. 4.
He has no prior criminal record, according to the provincial court database.
In June 2012, a message posted on a Twitter page from a person identified as "Chris Long" states, "I should've been a computer hacker."
The page has since been shut down, and it is not known if this is the same person charged with the offences related to Jepsen.
The Vancouver Police Department was contacted in March of this year with a complaint that Jepsen's computer had been hacked.
Police identified a suspect in July after fake online images and a phony sex tape were released online.
At that time, Jepsen addressed the issue on Twitter.
"Crazy morning. Discovered that someone put up a sex tape claiming to be me. Ridiculous. Obviously not me," she wrote.
Jepsen, originally from Mission, is a former Canadian Idol finalist whose hit single Call Me Maybe was recently nominated for two Grammy Awards.
