A 44-year-old Abbotsford man has been charged in relation to a fatal hit-and-run that took place on Friday.
Mario Richard Delellis, 44, has been charged with aggravated assault, assault, failing to remain at the scene of an accident, and dangerous driving causing bodily harm.
Abbotsford Police Const. Paul Walker said police were called to the 2200 block of McKenzie Road on Friday at about 5 p.m. following reports that a pedestrian had been struck by a small passenger-sized vehicle, which had fled the scene.
A 41-year-old man at the scene was suffering from serious injuries, including fractures and broken bones along one side of his body, Walker said.
The man, whose name has not been released, was taken to hospital, where he died of his injuries on Sunday.
Walker said the two men knew each other, and the incident took place within feet of the victim's residence.
He said there was "some kind of dialogue" leading up to the collision.
Walker said "a handful" of witnesses were interviewed at the scene, leading to Delellis' arrest the following day.
Delellis is next scheduled to appear July 17 in Abbotsford provincial court.
The Abbotsford Police Department's (APD) major crime unit is continuing to investigate.
