Abbotsford cable water sports park investigated

Request for proposals will be sought after water ski club agrees to work with potential bidders.

A proposed new cable water ski and wakeboard park could soon become a reality in Abbotsford.

Council has approved a request by staff to seek request for proposals (RFP) on the project, which would be located at Albert Dyck Park.

There are at least three groups which have expressed interest in building and running the facility that would allow ski enthusiasts to participate in the sport without needing a boat.

The cable system can pull people along the water on a designated route and is reportedly able to serve more people, at a lesser cost, then conventional water skiing.

The Fraser Valley Water Ski Club, originally against the idea do to concerns the cable park would limit its own activities, is now supporting the idea.

The group has been in discussions with one of the potential bidders and believes both can co-exist in the same area.
