A drug bust Thursday night at two homes in Abbotsford yielded approximately $140,000 in cash and 1.5 kilograms of cocaine.

Const. Ian MacDonald said police executed two search warrants between 9 and 10 p.m. One was at a home in the 3500 block of Bassano Terrace, and the other was in the 31000 block of Westridge Place.

MacDonald said the cash was located in the Bassano Terrace residence, and the drugs were found in the other location.

Two men connected to the homes were arrested together at a restaurant in central Abbotsford.

"It wasn't a busy restaurant and we waited for an appropriate time to arrest them safely," MacDonald said.

A third man, who was in the Bessano Terrace home at the time of the bust, was detained and was released at the scene.

Mike Van Nguyen, 39, and Paul Van Nguyen, 38, have each been charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking. MacDonald could not confirm whether the two are related.

He said the men are known to the Abbotsford Police Department. Mike Nguyen has no criminal convictions, although he was charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking in Abbotsford in 2001, according to the provincial court database.

Paul Nguyen was charged with impaired driving and dangerous driving causing death in 1998 in Chilliwack.

The busts of the two homes were conducted by the drug enforcement unit, with assistance from members of the emergency response team, the bike squad, the crime reduction unit and the patrol division.

This is the second large drug bust this week in Abbotsford. The first took place on Tuesday night at an apartment on McKenzie Road.

Police seized 18 grams of heroin, five replica handguns and about $1,000 cash at that residence.
