The Abbotsford Curling Club will be getting a new roof.

City of Abbotsford council has approved up $800,000 to replace the roofs of the Curling Club on McMillan Road and the city-owned Marshall Road Building.

The city's general manager of engineering and regional utilities is now authorized to approve all payments to Unitech Construction Management for the projects.

Unitech is also allowed to enter into subcontracts for the jobs.

Both buildings have exceeded their 25-year lifespans and assessments have determined they have "failed in many locations and are in poor condition," according to city documents.

The Marshall Road Building, which is located at 34194 Marshall Road and houses several community services, including an Abbotsford Police Community Policing Office and a Fraser Health public health unit, was built in 1983 was given a rating of one out of 10. The Curling Club, built in 1979, was given a two out of ten.

"The roofs were patched many times to prolong their service lives, and replacement is required."
