Abbotsford Airshow takes off

The weekend-long celebration for the 50th anniversary of the Abbotsford International Airshow begins on a high note.

ABBOTSFORD- All eyes are to the sky this weekend for the 50th anniversary celebration of the Abbotsford International Airshow.

Gates opened at 8:30 a.m. and crowds quickly gathered for the opening ceremony. As Mayor Bruce Banman sang both the American and Canadian anthem, the CF Skyhawks Parachute Team demonstrated their high flying skills.

With plenty to see in the air, including Dan Buchanan in the Sail-Plane and the USAF Thunderbirds, as well as ground displays featuring both military and civilian aircraft, the Abbotsford Airshow was quickly buzzing with spectators of all ages.

Retired pilots, newcomers, families and returning airshow enthusiasts wandered through rows of ground displays, toured the interior of large carriers and were invited to take a seat in the cockpit of various planes.

There are high hopes for the remainder of the weekend spectacle, as day one comes to a close with great success.
