The Abbotsford Police Department is investigating a series of home break-ins in the Blueridge and Townline areas.

The Abbotsford Police Department is warning citizens in the Blueridge Drive and Townline Road area about a series of recent thefts, including one in which $50,000 in foreign currency, jewelry and electronics were stolen.

Const. Ian MacDonald said seven thefts took place between Nov. 5 and 16 in an area bordered by Valdes Drive to the east and Heritage Drive to the west.

He said police believe the same suspects are involved in each of the break-ins due to the similarities among the incidents.

All took place between 3 and 7 p.m., involved the culprits getting into the homes by prying open a locked window, occurred in the same general area and involved the theft of cash, jewelry and electronics.

MacDonald said none of the residents was home at the time, leading police to believe the thieves might have been watching the houses before breaking in.

He said the timing of the thefts is unusual in that it was during a period when kids would have been coming home from school or people would have been returning from work.

MacDonald said several of the thefts involved large amounts of cash and jewelry. The $50,000 theft was the biggest, but the losses in two others were valued at $30,000 and $15,000.

"At some places, we've been surprised at the amount of cash and jewelry people have on hand," he said.

MacDonald said there is a possibility that the thieves specifically targeted some or all of the individuals who were robbed.

He said citizens are encouraged to report suspicious activity to police and to safeguard their valuables.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Abbotsford Police Department at 604-859-5225, text abbypd (222973) or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
