During the 2014 municipal election, organizers of all-candidates meetings had to find room for 30 council candidates. This year, 18 people are running.

Three local business groups have announced the dates for two all-candidates meetings it will host prior to voting for this fall’s municipal election.

The Abbotsford Chamber of Commerce, Fraser Valley Indo-Canadian Business Association and the Fraser Valley Real Estate Board will hold separate mayoral and council meetings during the first week of October.

The six mayoral candidates have been invited to an event Oct. 2 at Matsqui Centennial Auditorium. The event will begin at 7 p.m. and candidates will answer questions from a panel of business leaders, as well as written queries from the audience.

Two days later, on Oct. 4, the 18 council candidates will take part in an event in the upstairs of the Ag Rec Building Gallery, at Exhibition Park. After a short candidate introduction, audience members “will have a ‘meet-up’ opportunity with all candidates to ask questions and get to know each “on a more personal level,” according to a press release.

Each candidate will also be sent a list of eleven questions. Answers will be distributed at the meetings and on the chamber’s website, at abbotsfordchamber.com/news.

The election will be held Oct. 20.
