In the heart of downtown Abbotsford, the Local Public House is the spot to relax and enjoy a good meal. Formerly known as La Reina, the Storey family has been in the restaurant industry for nearly three decades. Starting with the Glen Bar+Grill
Ryan Storey opened up La Reina when the Glen Bar and Grill flooded a few years ago. After rebuilding The Glen we had both running, unfortunately we couldn’t come to a new lease agreement at The Glen, so we decided to rebrand the La Reina location to what it is now, a mix of our pub environment and some DT country flair
“There's nothing like it downtown,” Storey says. “You can grab a cold beer, enjoy good pizza, watch sports and appreciate the country atmosphere.”
Five big-screen TVs feature the latest sports action, while country memorabilia, like hats suspended from the ceiling, evoke a nostalgic '90s country feel. The ambience caters to people in the 30 to 50 age range, offering a “motley gentlemen sports vibe,” as Storey describes it, while also welcoming regulars who appreciate its relaxed, country-inspired environment.
Culinary choices
All burgers are crafted fresh in-house using a recipe handed down from Storey's father. The menu also has some Neapolitan-style pizzas baked in a brick oven, alongside tacos, chicken wings, sandwiches and Deep fried pickles etc etc
The restaurant also hosts a series of events, like stand-up comedy every week and special events as well as open mic nights on Sundays from 7 to 8 p.m.
Supporting the community
As an independent, family-owned restaurant, the Local Public House places a strong emphasis on building relationships and getting to know customers by name.
“Supporting locals, the farmers, on the flats during the floods, donating food, helping the firemen, it's important for us to support our community,” Storey says.
“My wife and my kids motivate the work I do, and I love serving guests – my passion is hospitality.”
