The Abbotsford Agrifair marks an amazing 115 years this August – more than a century of celebrating community, agriculture and family fun in the Fraser Valley!
This year’s theme, “I love this fair,” aims to evoke nostalgia and highlight the cherished memories of fair-goers. From Aug. 2 to 4, attendees can write their thoughts on a heart, which will be displayed as a testament to the community’s enduring love for the event.
Fair Manager, Cory Cassel, says the celebration comes at a time where Fraser Valley residents are keen on connecting with their community during the peak days of summer.
“Over the past several months, our team has been asking the community what they love most about Agrifair. The most common response we get is the tradition of how the Fair brings the community together and provides an opportunity for fun for the whole family. The rides, the animals and the demolition derby are also highlights of Agrifair for the community.”
Among the many attractions this year, is an impressive lineup of entertainers – here's a look at what's planned:
- B.C. country music star Lisa Brokop, headlining the Saturday night concert. Adding to the excitement, Lisa will be inducted into the BC Country Music Hall of Fame this October, and her performance promises to be a highlight of the weekend, drawing fans from across the Valley.
- On Friday night, the fair features Eshan Sobti, a Mission resident who's gained national fame as a top-three finalist on Canada’s Got Talent and a top-eight contestant on American Idol. Ishan’s highly anticipated performance is expected to captivate the local audience.
- One of the biggest crowd-pleasers, the Demolition Derby, returns with new and thrilling stunts, as the fair collaborates with the derby team to ensure an unforgettable experience for attendees.
- Another fan favourite making a comeback is the Pig Races. Last seen in 2019, these adorable races are sure to delight guests of all ages.
- A new addition to this year’s fair is the Extreme Dog Show, which combines the best elements of the super dogs and dog dock jumping. This high-energy show will showcase the incredible talents of dogs as they perform spectacular jumps and tricks.
While offering plenty of fun and entertainment, the Abbotsford Agrifair remains dedicated to its agricultural roots, notes Cassel, whose own roots are in agriculture. The 4-H Show, for example, is a cornerstone of the fair, allowing 4-H members from across the province to present their projects. The Fraser Valley Antique Farm Machinery Association also offers a glimpse into the past with its display of historical agricultural equipment.
The Abbotsford Agrifair is not just an event; it’s a celebration of community, heritage and the agricultural spirit that has been at the heart of the Fraser Valley for over a century. For more information and to buy tickets, visit agrifair.ca.
