History:
The Rail District is located near the old Clayburn Brick Factory – originally the ‘Vancouver Fireclay Company’ established in 1905. The company changed its name to ‘Clayburn Company Limited’ in 1918 and grew to be a powerhouse in the brick industry thanks to the rich clay deposits in the area.
The community of Abbotsford has the old brick-making factory to thank for much of the growth and development of the region at the time. The Rail District pays homage to these historical roots, using the Clayburn legacy and factory as inspiration for many of the design choices of its buildings and decor.
