A small wildfire has been identified south of Cultus Lake, near the border, Aug. 9, 2024.

Two small wildfires have been identified close to the American border, southeast of Chilliwack.

BC Wildfire listed the first fire as .01 hectares as of 5 p.m. Friday (Aug.9). It is listed as being 4.9 kilometres west of Tamihi Creek and the fire number is V11970.
The cause of that fire is still under investigation, however there was recent lightning in the area.

It was the second new wildfire start in one day in the region, with one at Harrison Hill near Lake Errock (V11937) reported earlier in the day.
Later in the evening, a third fire was also identified on Church Mountain, identified as V11990.

As of 9 a.m. on Aug. 10, all three fires were listed as 'out of control.'

This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
