A series of all-candidates meetings have been announced for provincial ridings impacting Abbotsford, Langley and Mission.
The Abbotsford Chamber of Commerce has partnered with the Fraser Valley Real Estate Board (FVREB), Fraser Valley Indo-Canadian Business Association (FVICBA), Abbotsford Downtown Business Association (ADBA), and the Langley and Mission Chambers for four events occurring in October.
These meetings will be focused on business issues and will provide an open forum for candidates to articulate their views on topics like investing in infrastructure across the Fraser Valley, addressing the high-cost environment affecting businesses and people, and working to support and grow the local economy.
These events are structured as forum-styled discussions where candidates will field questions from business associations and the audience.
Attendance is open to the public and registration is free. The events for Abbotsford South and West will be moderated by Vijay Manual, local educator and chair of the Character Abbotsford council. All official candidates who are registered with Elections BC have been invited to participate.
The scheduled dates are:
Langley-Abbotsford – Wednesday, Oct 2 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. (venue to be determined)
Abbotsford-Mission – Thursday, Oct. 3 from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. (Mission's Clarke Theatre, 33700 Prentis Ave.)
Abbotsford South – Wednesday, Oct. 9 from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. (Matsqui Centennial Auditorium, 32315 South Fraser Way)
Abbotsford West – Wednesday, Oct. 9 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. (Matsqui Centennial Auditorium, 32315 South Fraser Way)
“Given today’s economic conditions characterized by economic uncertainty and rising costs, elected representatives must prioritize creating conditions for our businesses to grow. When local businesses are strong, our communities and residents thrive,” stated Abbotsford Chamber of Commerce CEO Alex Mitchell. “We’re pleased to host these sessions with candidates to provide an opportunity for businesses and community members to be well-informed during this provincial election cycle.”
The event will also be recorded and made available on YouTube. Questions may be submitted in advance via events@abbotsfordchamber.com or during the event via Slido. No questions will be taken from the floor.
