Schools and facilities are remaining closed across the Fraser Valley region for a second day in a row Thursday (Jan. 18) due to heavy snow and ice.

Chilliwack, Abbotsford, Mission and Fraser-Cascade school district officials put the closure notice up in the early morning hours after it snowed heavily most of the day before, depositing more than 25 centimetres of snow in some areas.

“Due to icy road conditions and packed snow on some roads, all schools and sites are closed to students and staff (including daycares, pre-schools, and all community use),” according to Chilliwack officials.

Once again the district’s emergency staffing plan goes into effect.

Fraser Cascade School District #78 school and facilities are also closed, as are Mission and Abbotsford school districts as well.

For a second day, due to winter weather and hazardous road conditions, all UFV campuses are closed Thurs, Jan 18. In-person classes are cancelled.

Squiala Elementary/Secondary school officials announced their schools are closed as well.
