The BC NDP announced Sunday (Aug. 11) that Sarah Kooner has been nominated as its candidate in Abbotsford South.
Kooner is an infant development professional at the Fraser Valley Child Development Centre and has almost 10 years of experience.
Kooner is also on the board of the Health Science Association, where she advocates for better workplace conditions for health-care professionals.
“More than anything else, our health-care system needs investment: in building hospitals, in hiring workers and in training doctors and nurses,” Kooner said.
"John Rustad and the BC Conservatives have promised to cut $4.1 billion from our health-care system. We need to strengthen our health-care system, and can’t afford the risk of Rustad’s cuts.”
Premier David Eby applauded the addition of Kooner to the list of BC NDP candidates for the provincial election on Oct. 19.
“Sarah has spent her career helping children grow up happy and healthy. She understands how critical supports and services can help families build a good life,” he said.
“The people of Abbotsford South can count on her, and our whole BC NDP team, to help people get the care they need, when they need it.”
The current MLA for Abbotsford South, Bruce Banman – who announced last September that he was leaving BC United (formerly the Liberals) to join the Conservatives – is seeking re-election.
He now serves as the Conservative House Leader.
Also vying for the seat in the provincial election is Marcus Delves with BC United.
