The Abbotsford Police Department reports that it has caught 87 impaired drivers in the first 20 days of January compared to 33 for the same period in 2024.

The Abbotsford Police Department (APD) is reporting a 164 per cent increase in the number of impaired drivers it has caught so far this year compared to the same period in 2024.

The APD says it caught 87 such drivers in the first 20 days of January 2025, compared to 33 in 2024.

APD media officer Sgt. Paul Walker said the increased number could be due to “further proactive enforcement,” but there also seems to be more impaired drivers on the roads.

“We have not been able to conclusively figure out why this is occurring, but suspect many factors likely play into the decision-making of people driving impaired,” he said.

The APD previously reported that more than 800 impaired drivers were taken off local roads in 2024.
