Police investigate sexual assault at Mill Lake Park in Abbotsford

The Abbotsford Police Department is investigating a sexual assault that was reported on the evening of Monday, March 24.

Police in Abbotsford are investigating a report of a sexual assault in Mill Lake Park on Monday night (March 24).

Sgt. Paul Walker, media officer with the Abbotsford Police Department (APD), said the female victim reported that she was walking in the park at 6:40 p.m.
when she was approached by a man who asked her for help to take a photo with his cellphone.

"During this encounter, the victim was assaulted; although shaken, she was not injured," Walker said.

He said the incident occurred on the path beside the lake between Ashley Way and Alta Avenue.

The suspect is described as five-foot-eight with a medium build, short black hair and a short black beard. 

He appeared to be in his 30s, was wearing black pants and a black-and-white short rain jacket with white in the chest area, and was carrying a black umbrella.

Walker said the incident appears to be random.

Any witnesses who were in the park between 6 and 7 p.m. and who might have information are asked to contact the APD's major crime unit at 604-859-5225.
