Hawks crowned Tier II EVAA champions on Wednesday (May 15) after undefeated season

The W.J. Mouat Secondary senior girls soccer team made school history by going undefeated this season in league and playoff action.

The Hawks beat Chilliwack Secondary School 2-0 to win the Tier II Eastern Valley Athletic Association Championship (EVAA) on Wednesday (May 15).

The final game, played at Matsqui Recreation Centre in Abbotsford, was a showdown between the red and blue. The Mouat Hawks had majority of offensive zone possession time in the first half, even though they did not have much to show for it. That changed in the second half when Kirin Sura netted the teams first goal. Sura proved to be the most valuable player of the afternoon when she secured the deal by scoring the second goal.

Ella Wilson and Dakota Dietz played well, and rookie starters Leah Waddell and Amber Sura impressed.

The Hawks were solid defensively thanks to Clare Waddell, Zoe Tessier, Emma Braga and Marla Bartells. Fill-in goalie Megan Thompson recorded the shutout.
