Chilliwack Cultural Centre hosts first-ever festival with day of festivities

The Chilliwack Cultural Centre kicked off a day of Lunar New Year celebrations with a traditional lion dance outside.

The Excellent Martial Arts Academy performed the dance in front of a large crowd of children and adults. The centre’s executive director, Jean-Louis Bleau, was invited into the ceremony to awaken the lions.

The day includes a market selling items like jewelry, flowers, and packaged and fresh Asian foods, including kimchi. There is also a silent auction, and live performances in the Rotary Hall, running until 3:30 p.m.

The day was to wrap up with a ticketed performance at 7 p.m.

Admission to the market and afternoon performances are by donation. Tickets to the evening show are $25 for adults and $20 for students and seniors. Tickets can be purchased at the Centre Box Office, online at chilliwackculturalcentre.ca, or by calling 604-391-SHOW(7469).
