Pedestrian dies in alleged impaired driving collision in Abbotsford

Abbotsford police arrest driver of white Dodge pickup after fatal collision on Harris Road

A pedestrian died in Abbotsford on Sunday morning (Feb. 9) after a collision involving an alleged impaired driver.

In a news release, the Abbotsford Police Department (APD) said officers responded to the crash in the 30000 block of Harris Road at 7:54 a.m.

Police say a white Dodge pickup truck struck a pedestrian and sheared off a power pole. Civilians and first responders tried to save the pedestrian,  but he died from his injuries.

The driver remained at the scene and was arrested for impaired driving by members of APD's traffic enforcement unit, the release states.

APD said on Sunday that an investigation from its major crime unit and the Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service is in its early stages.

Harris Road between Mt. Lehman Road and Ross Road was closed for several hours after the crash while officers investigated.

Those with information are urged to contact the APD at 604-859-5225.
