Operation Red Nose launches B.C. campaign in Abbotsford

Volunteer service also running in Chilliwack, Kamloops, Mission Prince George and Williams Lake

The Operation Red Nose safe ride campaign officially launched in Abbotsford on Wednesday (Nov. 13).

This year marks the 29th annual operation for the province of British Columbia and the 41st for Canada.

The free volunteer service has helped millions get home safely during the holiday season.

Host organizations in Abbotsford and Mission will offer the service on Dec. 6, 7, 13, 14, 19, 20, 21, 27, 28 and 31.

Groups in Chilliwack, Kamloops, Prince George and Williams Lake will also offer the service in the window from Nov. 29 to Dec. 31 and they join 70 other local host organizations in six other provinces.

"As Operation Red Nose begins its 41st annual campaign in the country, the importance of our mission remains clear," stated Jean-Marie De Koninck, the founding president of ORN. "And without the unwavering commitment of our volunteers, the true pillars of our organization, that mission could not be fulfilled. Together, we play a crucial role in improving road safety, year after year, by providing a safe ride service that saves lives and raises awareness on the dangers of impaired driving."

By calling on ORN and its volunteers, users can enjoy a safe ride home and help support local youth or amateur sport organizations, since all donations are turned over to such organizations. All of the funds raised through the service stay in the host communities.

"Operation Red Nose and its many dedicated volunteers help make our roads safer every holiday season,” stated Clay Steiro, ICBC’s manager of road safety program delivery. "Let's all celebrate the season safely. If your plans involve alcohol or drugs, make a plan to get home safely by using a
designated driver or calling a taxi, rideshare, or Operation Red Nose. By making a safe choice, you’re helping to keep everyone on our roads safe this holiday season."
