While countless locals were busy enjoying their long weekend, the Abbotsford Police Department was busy dealing with the nearly 400 incidents that occurred throughout the city.

From Friday evening to Tuesday morning, police officers were bombarded with calls of all kinds, including a shoplifting incident on Victoria Day.

According to police, two people attempted to steal from a department store and presented a knife to the security guard when confronted. Police officers were able to locate the two men shortly after they fled the store and placed them under arrest.

"They are now in custody, awaiting court appearances," the Abbotsford Police Department said.

The weekend also included 20 domestic disturbance calls, six missing persons, and 15 assaults.

On a weekend where vehicle crashes drastically increase – averaging 2,200 crashes in B.C., according to BC Highway Patrol – the tally of impaired drivers taken off Abbotsford roads climbed even higher, with police handling nine impaired drivers during the weekend.

In total, 392 police files were handled from 5 p.m. on May 16 to 6 a.m. on May 20.
