Former B.C. government staffer Michael Geoghegan became the Conservative Party of B.C. candidate for the new electoral riding of Chilliwack-Cultus Lake on Feb. 14.
But one week later Geoghegan is out of the race for health reasons.
“We thank Michael for stepping up and we all are completely behind him in his health journey,” said Angelo Isidorou, executive director of the Conservative Party of B.C.
Geoghegan, who ran for Victoria mayor in 2018, said after seeking a community “aligned with his conservative values,” he relocated to Chilliwack, where he delved into development.
The party said last week it expects to name a candidate for Chilliwack North in the coming weeks, and now another will be needed for the new Chilliwack-Cultus Lake riding as well.
That leaves two declared in the race. Incumbent Kelli Paddon declared her intentions to run again as MLA in December, and former city councillor Sue Knott announced Feb. 20 she’ll be running for BC United in Chilliwack-Cultus Lake.
