Gurnoor Sidhu is the sixth person to announce she is seeking the federal Conservative Party nomination for Abbotsford-South Langley.

A seventh person is seeking the Conservative Party of Canada's nomination in the new Abbotsford-South Langley riding.

Gurnoor Sidhu made the announcement on Monday (Feb. 3), saying she has "deep local roots and a proven track record in community service."

Sidhu said her involvement with the federal Conservative Party began at age 13 and she has actively contributed to "grassroots campaigns and voter outreach initiatives."

She first became a member of the party at age 15 and now serves as a board member on Mission-Matsqui-Abbotsford’s Conservative Electoral District Association.

She ran for Abbotsford city council in 2022, earning 6,428 votes. Sidhu said the experience reinforced her "passion for public service" and deepened her connection with the community.

Her education includes a bachelor of arts degree specializing in criminal justice and sociology, a liberal arts diploma, a professional communication essentials associate certificate, and a media literacy associate certificate.

Sidhu also completed a practicum with Abbotsford Community Corrections at the Abbotsford Law Courts.

Among others, she has volunteered with Abbotsford Regional Hospital and the West Abbotsford Youth Action Group with the Abbotsford Police Department.

Some organizations she currently serves on are the city’s public safety advisory committee, the Abbotsford Community Foundation's student awards committee, and the council for the Company of Young Professionals and Entrepreneurs.

Gurnoor said her priorities are to focus on critical challenges facing the community, such as affordability, crime and the opioid crisis.

"This includes eliminating the carbon tax, ending the ineffective catch-and-release system and providing addiction treatment solutions," she said.

"Guided by fiscal responsibility and accountability, I am committed to ensuring every taxpayer dollar is used effectively to serve the community."

Gurnoor can be reached at 604-300-6376 or GurnoorK.Sidhu13@gmail.com.

Also seeking the federal Conservative nomination for Abbotsford-South Langley are former longtime BC United MLA Mike de Jong; Mike Murray, the former constituency assistant to retiring MP Ed Fast; Steve Schafer, vice-president of the Langley-Aldergrove constituency association; Shanjeelin Dwivedi, who has served as a director of parliamentary affairs with two MPs as well as a senior adviser and campaign volunteer; Dustin Hiles, who previously supported gourmet hot dog vendor Skully White, who announced his candidacy but withdrew last year; and farmer Sukhman Singh Gill.

A date for the nomination vote has not been announced.

A federal election must take place this year in October, but it's expected to happen sooner than that.
