Graeme Hutchison has been nominated as the BC NDP candidate in the Abbotsford West riding.

The BC NDP has announced that labour leader Graeme Hutchison has been nominated as their provincial election candidate in the Abbotsford West riding.

Hutchison is the past president of MoveUP (Movement of United Professionals) and the current president of the Fraser Valley Labour Council.

He has been an Abbotsford resident for more than two decades.

Hutchison said he "will fight for the issues that matter to people in Abbotsford West."

"People in my community need homes, but (Conservative Party of BC leader) John Rustad has said he'd repeal our Housing Action Plan, handing our market over to speculators. We can't afford the risk," Hutchison said.

"People in Abbotsford West need a government that is ready to take on the big challenges people face today: to build homes, to strengthen health care, and to create a more affordable day to day life. That's the BC NDP."

Premier David Eby said Hutchison "is no stranger to taking action for people."

"As a labour leader, he's fought for better wages and working conditions for people, and he's ready to take his fight to the BC Legislature," Eby said.

"The people of Abbotsford West can count on him to be in their corner, fighting for the issues that matter to them: housing you can afford, health care you can count on, and a strong, clean economy so you and your family can prosper."

Hutchison's opponents so far declared in Abbotsford West for the Oct. 19 election are Korky Neufeld with the Conservatives and James Davison, an independent.
