Approximately 100 people have now been rendered temporarily homeless due to a significant condo fire in central Abbotsford on Saturday evening.
Pillars of smoke could be seen all throughout Abbotsford after 9 p.m. on June 7, as flames poured from the Royal Court residential building (31930 Old Yale Rd.), requiring support from both the Township of Langley and Mission Fire Rescue.
The 55+ senior condo building features 51 units, but many of these have now been heavily damaged, with the City of Abbotsford explaining that 100 people have been displaced as a result of the fire.
To help accommodate these individuals, a reception centre was set up next door at the Clearbrook Mennonite Brethren Church.
A few people also had to be transported to the hospital for minor injuries as a result of the fire.
"Two occupants and one firefighter were transported to Abbotsford Regional Hospital for smoke inhalation," said the City of Abbotsford.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, with no further information available.
