A special presentation on the benefits of volunteering will occur inside Legacy Sports Centre (32470 Haida Dr.) on Wednesday, Sept. 18.

The free event, entitled Volunteering: Where Heart Meets Impact, is hosted by the Fraser Valley Conservancy (FVC) in partnership with the City of Abbotsford and runs from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Attendees can expect to learn about the positive effects of volunteering on the community, the environment and themselves. It will also help equip those interested with the tools to begin their volunteering journey.

Participants will also meet staff who are eager to share their passion for conservation and community service. Local organizations including Mission Environmental Stewardship Society, Archway Community Services, Abbotsford Mission Nature Club, Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve and Earthwise Society will be joining the event to share their programs.

The event's guest speaker will be the City of Abbotsford's volunteer coordinator Chrissy Borseth.

"This could be a pivotal moment in your career, improve your relationship with your community, or even change how you see the world," stated Aleesha Switzer, a biologist at FVC. Volunteering opens doors you didn't even know were there. We would love to meet you and answer your questions, so come out and join us."

Organizers stated that all attendees must be at least 13 years old. Light refreshments will be offered.

Those interested are encouraged to register beforehand at fraservalleyconservancy.ca/event/volunteering-whereheartmeetsimpact2024.
