Columbia Bible College Bearcats forward Elissa Vreugdenhil has been named the Pacwest women's basketball player of the year for the second season in a row.
Pacwest made the announcement on Wednesday (Feb. 26).
Vreugdenhil, a Sumas, Wash. product, led the conference with 13 rebounds per game and finished third in scoring with 15.1 points per game. She also placed fourth for blocks per game with 1.1 and fifth for field goal percentage at .434.
She helped lead the Bearcats to the team's best-ever record in 2024-25 and they finished in second place at 19-3. Vreugdenhil was also named to the Pacwest's first team all-star squad. She joined teammate Kagari Tomita, VIU's Harriette Mackenzie, Douglas College's Mackenzie Dalphond and Capilano University's Mia Parkin as first team members.
CBC's Jayla Huynh was named to the Pacwest all-rookie team for her strong debut campaign.
The women received a first-round bye in the Pacwest basketball championships for finishing second and will open the playoffs on Friday (Feb. 28) against the winner of Thursday's (Feb. 27) game between the Douglas College Royals and the Camosun Chargers.
The Pacwest championship game is set for Saturday (March 1). The championship tournament occurs at Capilano University in North Vancouver. CBC in Abbotsford was scheduled to host the event, but Pacwest officials removed the school as hosts following an investigation into the behaviour of Bearcats head coach Taylor Claggett.
The CBC Bearcats men's team also received nods from the Pacwest, as D'Andre Palmer-Ormsby was named the Pacwest rookie of the year, a second team all-star and made the all-rookie team. Palmer-Ormsby placed seventh in the Pacwest in scoring with 14.1 points per game.
The men finished fourth in the conference with a record of 11-13 and they open the playoffs at 3 p.m. on Thursday against the Langara Falcons.
