Aaron Bayes will run as the BC Greens candidate for the Abbotsford-Mission riding in the upcoming provincial election.
The volunteer firefighter from Abbotsford will join current NDP MLA Pam Alexis and Conservative candidate Reann Gasper on the ballot.
According to the BC Greens website, Bayes manages a small campground in British Columbia and volunteers as a wildland firefighter and structure protection specialist.
“Aaron understands the urgency of addressing the affordability crisis that has pushed many, including himself, out of the housing market,” his bio reads.
“His goal as a BC Green Party candidate is to ensure that the Abbotsford-Mission riding remains a vibrant and accessible community for everyone, through policies focused on sustainability, housing, and protecting natural spaces.”
Bayes enlisted in the U.S. Army after high school and served in Kuwait, Iraq, and New Orleans during the Hurricane Katrina response.
After returning to B.C., Bayes completed a degree in psychology from the University of the Fraser Valley and has also worked for Elections BC and Elections Canada.
An All Candidates Forum for the Abbotsford-Mission electoral district will be held on Oct. 3, from 6-8 p.m. at the Clarke Theatre in Mission.
