Charges have been laid in relation to the stabbing of two people in Abbotsford in mid-September.

Tu Cuong Tran, 33, has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault.

Const. Art Stele, media officer with the Abbotsford Police Department (APD), said the incident is related to “intimate partner violence.”

Police were called at 6:49 p.m. on Sept. 16 to the Wellesley Court apartment complex in the 1900 block of McCallum Road. Two victims were rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The suspect was arrested and taken to hospital with serious injuries that were self-inflicted, according to police.

Stele said the incident calls attention to “the often serious level of violence unfortunately present in some relationships.”

He said awareness of the issue is amplified during Purple Light Nights, in which the APD will participate during National Intimate Partner Violence Awareness Month throughout October.
