An Abbotsford woman who fired a pellet gun at an unmarked police vehicle in March 2023 has received an 18-month conditional sentence.
Tammy Gray, 50, was sentenced Aug. 9 in Abbotsford provincial court after previously pleading guilty to charges of assaulting a peace officer, assault with a weapon and using an imitation firearm.
Her sentence will be followed by 18 months of probation.
Three other charges – possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, mischief and a second count of assaulting a peace officer – were stayed at sentencing.
Gray was charged following an incident on March 12, 2023.
At about 12:30 a.m. that day, plainclothes officers were conducting routine patrols in a closed business complex in the 31900 block of South Fraser Way – near Countess Street – when they noticed a group of people on the property.
Police at the time said as officers in an unmarked vehicle approached the group, a woman pointed and shot a firearm, hitting the car’s windshield and causing minor damage.
Officers got out of the vehicle, identified themselves as police officers and ordered the woman to drop the weapon.
She complied, and the weapon was determined to be a pellet gun. Gray was subsequently charged.
Also on Aug. 9, Gray was sentenced to one day in prison for a separate incident that occurred on March 31, 2023.
She was charged with uttering threats and possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, but the weapon charge was stayed.
According to the provincial court database, Gray has several prior convictions for assault, as well as for assault with a weapon, mischief and breaching her probation and bail conditions.
