Abbotsford sports groups receive $380K in gaming grants

11 local organizations among 323 across province to receive funding

The Abbotsford BMX Society is among 11 local sports organizations that are receiving community gaming grants.

A total of 11 sports organizations in Abbotsford will receive more than $380,000 in funding from provincial community gaming grants.

The funds were announced Friday (July 12) as part of a total of $14.5 million being distributed across the province to 323 organizations.

Abbotsford-Mission MLA Pam Alexis said supporting grassroots sports organizations “enriches neighbourhoods and promotes physical and mental well-being for people of all ages.”

The local groups receiving the grants are:

• Valley Royals Track and Field Club – $8,000;

• Abbotsford Whalers Swim Club – $20,000;

• Special Olympics BC Society in Abbotsford – $28,500

• Abbotsford Minor Hockey Association – $100,000;

• Abbotsford Minor Fastball Association – $30,000;

• Abbotsford Rugby Football Club Society – $15,500;

• Abbotsford Falcons Football Association – $20,000;

• Abbotsford BMX Society – $29,500;

• Abbotsford Female Hockey Association – $26,000;

• Matsqui Blades Speed Skating Association – $2,750; and

• Abbotsford Soccer Association – $100,000.
