An Abbotsford school is among 26 across the province that have each received provincial funding for new accessible playgrounds.

John Maclure Community School was among those that will receive $195,000, the province announced on Tuesday (June 4).

A total of $5.07 million is being distributed for the new playgrounds at 26 school districts.

Last year’s contribution of $5 million supported 25 new school playgrounds. Of those, 20 are complete, while the remaining are close to ready, according to the province.

Education Minister Rachna Singh said playgrounds “enhance our kids’ well-being.”

“These are spaces where children can truly be themselves, where they express their joy, and learn valuable social skills,” she said.

Singh said since 2018, the province has allocated $40 million towards new playgrounds at 282 schools. She said every school district has received at least one new playground since the program started.
