Abbotsford roads see more than 200 dangerous driving incidents in 2024

Nearly 110 impaired drivers were also apprehended in January alone

Dangerous driving continues to be a major problem on the local roadways, with the Abbotsford Police recently releasing their stats for 2024 which revealed that more than 200 cases of dangerous driving plagued the city last year.

When paired with the significant rise in impaired drivers – more than 800 in 2024 and nearly 110 in January of this year – police are warning that law enforcement alone isn't enough to reduce these numbers and that the community as a whole needs to work together to help make the roads a safer place for everyone.

"Drivers engaging in these high-risk activities pose a significant threat to public safety within our community," said the Abbotsford Police Department.

One of the latest incidents occurred last week when a 19-year-old male was driving with a blood alcohol level of twice the legal limit and crashed into two parked cars in Abbotsford.

While no injuries were recorded, the driver was arrested and now awaits a court appearance.

The Abbotsford Police explained that the officers are using a variety of tactics to help deal with these instances, including both ground and air resources.

"Officers employ various tactics to safely track and apprehend these individuals," said the police. "One such tactic is partnering with the Lower Mainland Urban Patrol Helicopter, Air 1, which helps ensure public safety by monitoring suspects from the sky and relaying crucial information to ground units."
