Several areas throughout Abbotsford are about to get some major updates thanks to the most recent round of funding from the federal government's Canada Community-Building Fund (CCBF).
The City of Abbotsford announced on Wednesday (March 12) that the government had given $12.4 million to the city to finance seven infrastructure projects.
The total list of projects includes:
• Rail crossing upgrades ($4 million)
• Road culvert replacements ($3.8 million)
• Fire engine replacement ($1.6 million)
• Drainage pump station renewal and replacement ($1.5 million)
• Annual sidewalk and crosswalk program ($767,000)
• Trail rehabilitations ($500,000)
• Annual sport court renewals and replacement program ($200,000)
Mayor Ross Siemens said that he was grateful to the various government agencies who helped distribute this latest funding to help improve crucial Abbotsford projects.
"This renewed funding allows us to continue making necessary infrastructure improvements that enhance safety, connectivity, and quality of life for Abbotsford residents," Siemens said.
This $12.4 million is coming on the heels of the millions of dollars that were given to Abbotsford in 2024 to fund an additional 15 infrastructure projects, which brought the city's 10-year total from the CCBF to $78.5 million.
Housing and Municipal Affairs Minister Ravi Kahlon explained that this money is just one of the ways that federal and local governments are working together to improve the lives of British Columbians.
"With these infrastructure advancements, people in Abbotsford will benefit from important improvements that create stronger and more connected communities," Kahlon said.
