70 commercial vehicles towed during safety inspection in Abbotsford

Seven agencies, including police, conduct blitz near airport on Tuesday

A commercial vehicle safety inspection Tuesday (Feb. 20) in Abbotsford resulted in 70 vehicles being taken off the road.

The inspection was conducted in the area of Mt. Lehman Road and the Marshall Road Extension (near Abbotsford International Airport) from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Const. Art Stele, media officer with the Abbotsford Police Department (APD), said the blitz resulted in 87 inspections being completed and 288 violations identified.

Seventy vehicles were towed because they didn’t meet the minimum safety standards to operate.

The inspections were conducted by a total of 40 members of the APD; the Delta and Vancouver police departments; Burnaby RCMP; Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement; the Integrated Road Safety Unit; and the Surrey bylaws department.
