Comedian Katie-Ellen Humphries headlines a Yuk Yuk's show in Abbotsford on Oct. 25.

Yuk Yuk’s brings its community theatre series to Abbotsford on Friday, Oct. 25.

The show at Matsqui Centennial Auditorium starts at 8 p.m. and features headliner Katie-Ellen Humphries (CBC Debaters, San Francisco Sketchfest) joined by host Michaela Chung and opening act Johnny Perrotta.

Fresh off her win as "Best Comedian of 2024" by The Georgia Straight this past September, Humphries is set to bring her offbeat, surprising, and deeply imaginative humour to stages in B.C.

Having lived part-time in NYC since 2019, she’s now back in B.C., working toward a new comedy album set to be produced before the end of the year.

Her upcoming performances – also including one in White Rock on Oct. 26 – offers a sneak peek of what’s to come, showcasing years of growth and experience gained in both the Vancouver and NYC comedy scenes.

"I’m super excited to be coming out to White Rock and Abbotsford," Humphries said.

"Growing up on Vancouver Island, I didn’t explore the rest of the province much. Now, as a touring comedian, I love performing in new parts of B.C. There’s something so exciting about connecting with audiences right here at home.”

Her first album, Ladyfinger, released during the pandemic, was 10 years in the making, but she couldn’t tour or promote it properly. This time around, with the benefit of a more polished, confident approach, her new material is funnier, more reflective, and full of offbeat surprises.

Humphries' career spans regular appearances on CBC Radio’s The Debaters; nationally televised standup sets on CTV, CBC, and APTN; and stints at major festivals like the Winnipeg Comedy Festival, Seattle’s Bumbershoot Festival and Just For Laughs Vancouver.

She is also a three-time Canadian national open water 5k swimming champion.

Humphries' latest creation, the Fringe hit No Worries If Not, explored the delicate art of people-pleasing with a hilarious, personal twist. It enjoyed sold-out runs at both the Victoria and Vancouver Fringe festivals in 2023 and was listed as one of the top 15 shows to see at the San Diego Fringe Festival in May 2024.

"Katie-Ellen Humphries is one of the most exciting voices in Canadian comedy right now," says Garry Yuill, founder/producer, Icarus Capital/Yuk Yuk’s Media.

"Her ability to blend sharp jokes with deeply personal storytelling makes her a standout, and we’re thrilled to have her kick off the new season of our signature Yuk Yuk’s Comedy Spectacle theatre shows. Audiences in Abbotsford and White Rock are in for a truly special experience.”

Tickets and more information for the show – and other Yuk Yuk's performances in Abbotsford – are available at tickets.yukyuks.media
